We are, and since 1986 have been, situated in the historic Twentieth Century Building on the banks of our beloved Truckee river in downtown Reno, Nevada. There is parking along the side and at the rear of the building. We are bike friendly, so just bring your bike inside.
White Law Chartered (WLC) was incorporated as a Nevada professional corporation in 1978. John White, Esq. is the shareholder. Other employees include a bankruptcy/probate paralegal and a receptionist. We have a general civil practice, centered primarily on Chapter 11 and 12 bankruptcies, wills, probate, real estate and related litigation. We also commonly prepare business and prenuptial agreements and seek damages when our clients are defrauded. We have formed many local business entities. Last, but not least, we are dealing with numerous computer-internet related issues, such as identity theft. We do no criminal, family or tax law.
White Law Chartered is the successor to White, Pearl, Murphy and Anderson, now defunct and, before that, White and Spaulding, also now defunct.. Until their recent and untimely deaths, Felix Stumpf and Jack Streeter were “of counsel” to White Law Chartered. Felix, a graduate of Harvard Law School, was, among his many accomplishments, Dean of Old College and Assistant dean of the National Judicial College. Jack Streeter was formerly District Attorney of Washoe County. We are very proud of this firm’s history. We are also proud of our clients. Two of our current clients have been recognized as “Distinguished Nevadans” by the University of Nevada, the University’s most prestigious award. Our Chapter 11 clients are inherently risk-takers. Risk-takers, more than any other group, have brought us out of the dark ages and built this modern world. They are the opposite of monopolists, such as Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and all those nameless others who eschew competition.
The longer we practice law, the smarter our clients get.
Purpose of This Website
Far too many attorney web sites are simply bragging sites. The attorney says
“What a great guy or gal I am. Please hire me.” Something like that.
This site, in contrast, hopes to guess what some of your legal needs might be, and begin the process of addressing them. At least that is our goal. It requires much time, too much time for us to do it right.
Of course you cannot rely on the general remarks on this site to solve any of your legal problems. But this site can orient you in the right direction, so that with expert, individualized help, you might be able to solve your problem. For example, if we finish a project with one or our clients, which is amenable to resolution in part by a form of some kind, if we think of it, we hope to post that form, in generic format, on this site. Therefore, this site will always be something of a work in progress.
The purpose of forms which you may find on this site is to facilitate the use of our time, and therefore reduce your fee. Forms posted on this site are not intended to be used without our input. Should you do so, you do so at your own risk.
